about

Sonic Sandbox is a collective of Philadelphia area musicians who gather once a week as an improvisational performance collective. The core of the collective is a group of musicians who have played together for many years. From week to week the ensemble membership and instrumentation changes.

Everything on "Spontaneous Oasis" was played live, no overdubs, and improvised. Personnel for this recording includes:

Hugh Wattles (Sax)
Has played in bands such as Stainless Steal, OrangoTango, Lick The Earth, the Fundrazers and as well has performed in many projects as a musical artist in the experimental/noise music area. He has performed with Jack Wright, Toshi Makihara, Bill Monson, Woz, Asmina Chremos, and many others.

Jeremy dePrisco (Guitar+Electronics)
Has performed as a singer-guitarist and as bassist with Americana duo Fricknadorable. His side project, Shivasongster, showcases electronica and electro-experimental music. Visit jeremydeprisco.net to hear more.

Ralph Posmontier (Percussion)
A rock & jazz drummer, he has played since 1970 in various large & small groups, in the Catskills and the Philly area. He presently plays Dumbek with the group.

Ken Parker ("Bob") (Electric Violin)
A classically trained violinist, Ken “Bob” Parker played for 5 years in an alternative rock group in the early ‘70’s. Beginning in 2005, he performed for over 10 years with a guitarist-vocalist doing all kinds of “roots” stuff – country, folk, blues, pop. During this period he also performed with a jazz guitarist and versatile drummer, composing their own jazz – middle-eastern type tunes.

Steve Beuret (Electronics)
Electronic musician using acoustic circuits analogous to things that have been making sound for thousands of years. More at Squiggletronics.com.

David Ford (Trumpet, voice, and more)
David Ford started Sonic Sandbox in 2016 to provide a welcoming and supportive space to express himself authentically and connect with like-minded musicians and people who want to make music. He plays flugelhorn, trumpet, didgeridoo, djembe, recorder and makes sounds with assorted percussion and voice.

Sonic Sandbox performs live and also offers a workshop that inspires play, creativity and connection through sound. It is a space where everyone can play, no matter what musical experience they have. Workshop participants build community, collaborations and creative teams. They play with sound collaboratively, creating a safe, supportive place for each other to share their individual personalities and stories. Sonic Sandbox teaches people to listen differently, to find useful ideas in the music, to support those ideas and make them flourish.
